About Us

A beacon in the darkness

Every year CPU London provides free and low cost psychoanalytic psychotherapy to over 150 Londoners experiencing long standing, complex mental ill health. Most are on low income or benefits and wouldn’t be able to afford treatment privately.

Clinical excellence

CPU is known for its high standard of clinical excellence. We offer our patients individual or group psychotherapy sessions for up to two years, free of charge. It’s a long term engagement between therapist and patient, a chance to explore one’s difficulties in depth.

Improved lives

But our true impact ripples further. Because when we improve one person’s mental wellbeing, we also help the 4-5 people closest to them. Healing and recovery does not just transform them, but the lives of their partners, children, sponsors or caregivers. People currently travel from 21 boroughs across London to our premises in Camden.

The next generation

We also provide highly sought-after training placements to the next generation of psychoanalytic psychotherapists and psychoanalysts.

And we have a vision…

CPU’s contribution to the wellbeing of many without resources has been vital. I am grateful for all they do.
